Dave Bettner

I take cross-functional work from "who owns this?" to production — with sign-off.

I own cross-functional problems from diagnosis through adoption. Background in regulated operations and reporting technology; recent work spans enterprise GRC, API automation, and health-system go-lives.

Des Moines, Iowa

Open to operator and implementation leadership roles. Remote-friendly.

Selected work

Turning a certification handoff into an operating model

Statutory reporting certification required a controlled handoff between the reporting platform and an internal system of record, with audit trail and executive sign-off, not email attachments.

My role
Owned the special project from diagnosis through go-live; coordinated finance, IT, and executive stakeholders.
The work
Designed bidirectional integration between reporting technology and an in-house archival system with full audit trail; aligned finance, IT, and executive sponsors on ownership, controls, and sign-off sequence.
The result
Production certification workflow delivered; stakeholders signed off through go-live; handoff became a repeatable operating model.

Running enterprise reporting and GRC under audit pressure

Finance and audit teams were running many concurrent GRC and financial-reporting programs. Changes had to tie out, leave an audit trail, and win human sign-off before reaching a published statement.

My role
Led solution design and adoption as Solutions Architect; owned reconciliation and controlled-write workflows on active engagements.
The work
Scoped SSO, API, and ERP integration architecture with finance, audit, IT, and executive sponsors. Built source-first reconciliation, controlled write batches, and validators with human sign-off on customer-impacting workbook changes.
The result
Concurrent implementations through adoption; journaled changesets, tie-out checks, and native readback on active ACFR, GRC, and municipal finance engagements.

Connecting regulated workflows across health-system boundaries

Imaging orders and results had to move across practice and health-system boundaries under HIPAA. Each specialty interface failed on different controls, handoffs, or ownership gaps.

My role
Led cross-practice implementations through an acquisition transition.
The work
Deployed HIPAA-controlled imaging workflows, EHR interfaces, and customer-facing portal integrations with billing and access controls.
The result
Four workflow types in production; integrations cleared HIPAA review before go-live.

What I do on engagements

Find the real problem

Understand how the work currently happens, identify the constraint, and separate symptoms from causes.

Build the operating answer

Turn an objective into a process, system, decision structure, or implementation plan that holds up under real-world pressure.

Work across boundaries

Translate between executives, operators, subject-matter experts, and technical teams without losing the substance of the problem.

Stay through implementation

Configure, test, document, introduce, and improve the solution, not merely recommend it and leave.

How I approach difficult work

I map how work actually runs, name the real constraint, align owners, and ship something the team can keep using without me in the loop.

Map the real flow

Follow the work through people, systems, and handoffs until the break point is obvious.

Name the constraint

Separate symptoms from causes and define what “done” looks like before building.

Align owners

Get sponsors, operators, and technical teams on one workable path with clear ownership.

Prove and document

Ship in production, then document so someone else can run it without you.

Background

Regulated delivery across reporting, GRC, and healthcare integration. Roots in financial reporting and controls, where errors show up on the record and solutions must withstand audit scrutiny.

  • Scoping cross-functional work when no playbook exists
  • Shipping integrations and workflows others can operate
  • Executive alignment through go-live, not slide decks

The domain may change. The operating method carries over.

Have a difficult problem that needs an owner?

Interested in operator and implementation leadership roles where someone needs to own the answer and its rollout. Based in Des Moines; remote-friendly with travel for deployment work.
